Our Point
Of Difference Page Updated 22/4/2009 |
|
We have
three main points of difference in our breeding programme that set us apart
from other Angus studs and make us uniquely suited as a source of outcross
genetics. · We have no American blood · We have a very high incidence of the
Tenderness Gene · We place great importance on Phenotype |

These are just a few cattle of the type we
are breeding. They are not the old fashioned type, they are good big growthy
cattle that thrive on our hills. We have developed a strain that has
tremendous constitution, they are long caracassed cattle with depth of body
so essential for constitution and for producing cattle that weigh. They also
have a very smooth shoulder. We evaluate the bulls in our 450 head Otonga commercial herd. All the progeny are
sold at auction so that we can judge the acceptability of our programme. We
have been doing this for 35 yrs and during that time we have consistently
topped the market with 18 month steers, in-calf cows and 2 year Heifers. In
2004 the heifers set a new NZ record when 100 head sold for $1100. That
figure was exceeded last spring when the annual draft sold for a New record
price of $1250. 2009 and
a new record price for 2Yr heifers of
any breed 105 2Yr commercial Angus Heifers sold for an average price of
$1285. Some of our current sires may be seen on the page
